Как только на горизонте появились Sex Pistols & С°, Марк Перри немедленно бросил работу в банке Южного Кенсингтона и начал издавать первый лондонский панк-фанзин «Sniffin’ Glue». Чтобы соответствовать определенному образу, Марк приобрел пару костюмов, разрезал их ножом, превратив в лохмотья, перекинул через плечо унитазную цепочку и пошел создавать рок-группу с бывшим ударником группы Chelsea Джоном Toy. Although a part (albeit a small part) of the early English punk rock scene, Alternative TV is probably best known for the scabrous fanzine (Sniffin' Glue) published by lead singer Mark Perry (aka Mark P). Perry's 'zine embodied punk's tear-it-down ethos with a wonderfully petulant and sarcastic attitude, a fact that makes his transition to punk musician such a profound disappointment. Few people can claim to have been the spearhead and true instigator of a scene. The birth of Punk is usually attriibuted to Malcom McLaren and the Sex Pistols, but there is a person who was the true underground voice of punk; Mark Perry of ATV. The young Mark Perry was working as a bank clerk in 1976 when a Ramones gig inspired him to start a fanzine called Sniffin Glue.( One of the collaborators on the fanzine was Danny Baker, now known as a TV presenter and about as divorced from his punk roots as you could get.) Emerging from a bureaucratic existence to become transformed by the punk phenomenon enough to create one of its first zines, Mark Perry made Sniffin’ Glue into a mainstay of the scene.
